With a tradition spanning over half a millennium and a vision always oriented towards the future, Gebrüder Weiss Romania, the local branch of the globally operative full-service logistics provider based in Austria, actively engages in promoting sustainable values and an active lifestyle. It is no wonder they have enthusiastically chosen to support the Tour of Romania, an event that brings together the passion for mobility, performance, and the desire to be the best. Furthermore, the company has decided to sponsor the White Jersey, which is awarded to the Best Young Cyclist of the tour. We discussed with the company’s management about the reasons behind their commitment to the Tour of Romania and how they plan to expand their positive impact through their own campaigns.

Why did you choose to get involved in the Tour of Romania?

We embraced the partnership with the Tour of Romania with enthusiasm, as it shares the fundamental values that Gebrüder Weiss promotes. Besides this, we believe that the Tour of Romania brings a fresh perspective to Romanian sports and contributes to the development of the entire local landscape. By promoting performance and a healthy lifestyle, the event inspires both participants and the wider public, from young to old, to embrace movement and an active life.

Also, the partnership with the Tour of Romania is a natural extension of Gebrüder Weiss’ international cycling campaign, which is now in its third edition. Following the remarkable success achieved last year, for 2024 we have set ourselves a different goal, but at least as ambitious: cycling to the moon and back, with international participants having until September 30, 2024 to cover the equivalent of this distance, i.e. 768,800 kilometers. As in previous years, GWcycles combines this sporting challenge with environmental protection: the company will plant an additional 7,000 trees in Nicaragua for the kilometers traveled by the participants.

Thus, the Tour of Romania serves as further evidence of Gebrüder Weiss’s commitment to supporting and promoting those values and actions that have a positive impact in adopting an active lifestyle and protecting the environment, for a sustainable future.

What values do you believe the Tour of Romania conveys? Are there any shared values with the brand you represent? What are they?

The Tour of Romania is built on several fundamental values such as the passion for mobility, performance, endurance, teamwork, strategy, and the desire to be the best. These values resonate with the DNA and brand of our company, which has a history of over 500 years. They are consolidated into four core values that form the pillars supporting the Gebrüder Weiss organization beyond the borders of the country, uniting the people within the company and representing our motto and mission in day-to-day activities: Independence, Sustainability, Commitment, and Excellence in Services.

Additionally, the company’s slogan, GWmoves, clearly symbolizes the passion for mobility shared by over 8,600 employees worldwide.

What does the Tour of Romania represent or could represent for Romania?

The Tour of Romania represents a valuable opportunity from every perspective. Firstly, this event contributes to the development of sports tourism in Romania, attracting enthusiasts of cycling and sports from all over the world. As a result, Romania is positioned on the map of international sports competitions, facilitating investments in the tourism infrastructure and beyond.

In addition to the economic benefits, the Tour of Romania has a positive impact on the health of the population. By promoting cycling and physical activity during this event, a healthy and active lifestyle is encouraged among adults and children alike.

Another essential aspect is the promotion of Romania’s image globally, both from a sports and tourism perspective. The Tour of Romania provides an occasion to showcase the beauty of landscapes and cycling routes in various regions of the country, offering an attractive perspective on the country’s tourism potential. Consequently, it can attract a greater flow of international tourists, supporting the tourism industry and generating economic benefits throughout the country.

Where would you like the Tour to start next year? Why?

When it comes to organizing the Tour of Romania, aspects such as accessibility, adequate infrastructure, tourism potential, and local support are crucial factors to consider. Diverse routes are also essential. To cover the entire country and allow participants and spectators to discover unique locations and landscapes, the Tour should include multiple stages and varied routes.

The partnership between Gebrüder Weiss and the Tour of Romania demonstrates that sustainable values and a spirit of excellence can be combined with the passion for mobility and sports to build a better and healthier future. As a company with a rich history and a forward-looking vision, Gebrüder Weiss brings a fresh perspective to Romanian sports, inspiring both athletes and the general public to embrace a sustainable lifestyle enthusiastically.
